About

taringa! faced growing competition from giants such as Facebook, Twitter and instagram. It had difficulties adapting to new trends such as ephemeral content, short videos and live streaming. In addition, content monetization and community moderation presented major challenges. Over time, it suffered security problems and cyber-attacks that affected its reputation.

But even so, taringa! was a relic that wanted to be maintained in the south of South America, was acquired by the company IOV Labs in 2018, a company based in Uruguay that was dedicated to the web 3.0 world, with its powerful cryptocurrency RIF Token intended to found a new technological world for taringa! where a new mode of monetization would enter.

My Role - Product Designer

I participated in the design team of the product area, together we were approximately 6 designers, there I started in it with a Mid Senior position and before my departure from the company I reached a Senior position.

The Challenge - To venture into the web 3.0

Since the growing competition from giants like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, taringa! had difficulties to adapt to the trends, it was too late to enter and take competitive positions, they realized that making a leap into the 3.0 world would allow taringa! to be a new platform, with the possibility of curating its content and implement a monetization system anchored to a cryptocurrency.

The Approach - Mobile First

The roadmap looked clear and convincing, we embarked on a year of hard work and added to the need to enter the market quickly we decided to adopt the mobile first methodology, where anchored to a design system that would be maintained in parallel we could achieve the objectives quickly, which was an MVP in stores with a simple moderation system and achieve a migration of our users to begin to flood the platform with new monetizable content.

The fondations - taringa first Design System

Each functionality of the application required a quick implementation plan, where usability was not forgotten. To achieve this we started building a design system at a very early age of the roadmap, this design system was going to have a token system as complete as possible that would allow us to have a well-established foundation.

I was a participant of the token system, in charge of maintaining them throughout the time they were in taringa!, debugging those that were not necessary and simplifying those that were very used. This token system allowed us to accurately communicate our entire design system between platforms, designers and developers.

In addition to collaborating with the token system, I participated in the creation of multiple components that were to be constantly mixed in versions of the main library, to form a robust design system.
